As one of the premier makers of construction kit models, the American Revell company is a globally well known brand. Together with a German subsidiary company, Revell make models of almost every aeroplane, car, spaceship or vehicle imaginable, and all to a very high quality. The model making hobby of assembling moulded parts using glue, and then accurately painting the finished kit has been enjoyed by generations of boys who have carried on the interest well into adulthood.
Revell were constantly in competition with the British Airfix model makers, and in the 70's and 80's there was intense rivalry between the two companies to produce the best detailed and largest scale construction kits. Extra rivalry for Revell came from the Japanese company Tamiya, which resulted in standards being raised even higher. The Japanese tool makers had developed a new system for feeding the liquid plastic to the furthermost parts of the mould, resulting in improved quality.
In an effort not to become reliant on a declining model market, Revell have branched out into the world of toys, with distribution rights for magnetic jewellery, toy figures, action sports figures and model horse with accessories for little girls.
