Launched as a “moveable fighting man” in 1966, Action Man toys soon developed popular British personas – including military men, sportsmen and adventurers – all done in an effort to distinguish the toy from G.I. Joe – the doll’s U.S. counterpart.
The whole idea of a ‘doll for boys’ was quite revolutionary – but soon achieved widespread popularity. Rather like Barbie, Action Men figures have continued to move with the times – and since it’s launch, the toy has developed extra features and has received a consistent makeover.
