Features
The First Bike from John Crane's Tidlo division has a deep section wooden frame making it strong but light and the carry handle slot in the frame makes it quite comfortable to carry. The bike has steel rim wheels with pneumatic tyres so that it has a great ride and looks like a proper bike.
There are rubber handlebar grips for comfort and security for the rider. The bike is extremely hard wearing and is robust enough for use in nurseries and pre-schools. The seat height is adjustable from 34-38cm overall so it covers a wide age range and the overall dimensions are L79cm x H54 cm. The frame is of natural wood colour but the wheel, seat and grips are available in red, blue or pink.
Learning Aims
With a conventional bicycle the child has to master pedalling, balancing, steering, braking as well as listening (and talking). A balance bike aims to reduce the number of skills used at one time so the child can focus on the most difficult skill: balance and fine motor skills. The rider has better control over the speed of the bike, and as their confidence builds, they can soon start to scoot along on the bike.
