Following the somewhat unexpected success of the Zhu Zhu Pets in Christmas 2009, where kids enjoyed whizzing little electronic hamsters around various different playsets, 2010 sees some exciting extensions to this product range. As well as more elaborate playsets like the Grooming Salon, the Kung Zhu hamsters will be fighting their way onto the scene and are looking like they will grabbing their fair share of attention.
The Kung Zhu Pets are a kind of Mad Max version of the traditional hamsters. The two teams that need to battle it out are known as the Special Forces and the Ninja Warriors. They not only have all kinds of bizarre weaponry - but they also gibber away to each other in a slightly cute but slightly menacing karate-style language!
Showcased at the 2010 London Toy Fair, the Kung Zhu range is definitely an attempt to shake off the 'nicey nice' image of the hamsters. Bringing them into a battle environment and giving them plenty of dark-coloured, spiky-looking armour will almost certainly appeal to many boys who will enjoy setting up roleplay battles and fights with these otherwise cute little critters.
Geared towards boys aged 8-12, the two opposing tribes of Kung Zhu hamsters must go through rigorous training before they are let loose on the battlefield. Each group has its own special equipment to help with training. This includes a snake pit and dojo base for the Ninja Warriors - and a mission control and training ground for the Special Forces.
Why not collect all the sets and create your very own Kung-Zhuniverse!

Fighting Hamsters?
Comment by Lori, 23rd May 2010
This is horrible. It is teaching kids that it is OK to fight animals.
