Tickbird is one of the six main stars of the CBeebies TV show Tinga Tinga Tales. Aimed at children from 3–6, the inspiration for the series came from some traditional African folk stories, and the amazing, colourful Tanzanian art.
Tickbird and Hippo are virtually inseparable during the series as Tickbird spends a lot of the time eating all the tickly bits and pieces off Hippo’s back! Although quite small, Tickbird has plenty to say, and the 25cm Tickbird plush toys that have inbuilt sounds will undoubedtly reflect this talkative behaviour!
Tickbird's very own episode, Why Tickbird Sits On Hippo's Back, tells the tale of how Tickbird once challenged Hippo to see who could drink the most water in one gulp. Obviously Hippo thought she had the contest in the bag, but Tickbird cleverly used the tides (and the sea coming in and out) to ourwit her rival. Ever since then, Tickbird has been allowed to sit on Hippo's back and eat all the yummy ticks off it!
Although little fans of Tickbird will have to wait until the second wave of Tinga Tinga Tales toys are released before they'll be able to get their hands on a soft Tickbird toy, we have seen photos of the various sized plush toys that are in production and are confident they won't disappoint.
