About Julip Horses

Julip Horses is a fascinating company that has the kind of nostalgic past that most toy companies can only dream of! This history, combined with the unique quality of their products makes their horse figurines adored by young girls and older collectors the world over.

Founded in 1945, Julip Horses was started by Lavender Dower who provided a kind of 'dolls hospital' where she would restore rocking horses and other items. She also made a variety of small, porcelain figurines - and when one her horse creations was used to illustrate a book called "The Tale of Julip", the Julip horse figures were born and increased in popularity until the company "Julip Model Horses" was created in 1964.

A number of different owners and business locations then followed, until a newly-packaged range called The Horse of the Year was unveiled in 1988 that for the first time was made available to shop retailers such as Hamleys and Harrods. Julip Horses were removed from most stores in 2001 as the company focused more on the mail order market - and company continues to hand-make their toys under the leadership of Annabel Levaux in the company's Dorchester workshop.
