Corgi’s beginnings can be traced back to Northampton in 1934. Originally named the Mettoy Company, a major change came in 1956 when a larger factory in Swansea was used to manufacture the first pressure diecast toys. The name Corgi was chosen because of its link to its Welsh manufacturing base, and a Welsh breed of dog.
Corgi proudly claims to be the leading name in diecast scale models and is one of Britain’s best known brands.
Their ranges now cover almost every conceivable interest. Apart from their ever popular toys, the company makes highly detailed scale models of lorries, vans, buses, coaches, cars, aircraft and almost all products related to films or television series.
Many items are made in strictly limited quantities and come with numbered certificates. Many early models are now extremely rare, and items in mint condition can command several hundred pounds at auctions.
