Taunton is a traditional English market town which is also the county town of Somerset in the heart of the West Country. It is a convenient, safe and welcoming place, with an extensive range of shops including multiple and independent retailers. There are some interesting model and toy shops which blend well with all the fashion and food sellers.
The main shopping streets are supplemented by a good mix of cafes, bars and restaurants, and you don’t have to walk far to find the items you are looking for, especially with the specialist toy shops that serve the town so well.
The town derives its name from “Town on the River Tone”, and it is believed that it was a considerably important place in Saxon times. Taunton lies in an area known as the Vale of Taunton between the Blackdown and Brendon Hills. Taunton has excellent transport links, with two road junctions feeding onto the M5 motorway, and trains on the main West Country rail line stop regularly at Taunton station.
