When the Apple iPad was launched in May 2010 it was greeted with a rather mixed response. Sales figures since that launch have been impressive - and it's therefore no surprise that the toy industry has followed suit by producing iPad inspired toys that will make children feel like they're in control of a miniature version of the real thing. LeapFrog’s entry into the kids tablet market is with a very impressive product called LeapPad Explorer that’s designed for children ages 4 and over.
Big on features and specifications, LeapPad Explorer includes an in-built video recorder and camera as well as a microphone for sound recording. The integrated animation studio lets kids experiment with image manipulation and editing on the brilliant 5” colour touch screen which can also be used by children to apply writing skills using the child-sized stylus.

Whilst the LeapPad Explorer has a sleek design, it’s also designed to be robust enough to put up with the rough and tough play that kids can subject to most of their toys. This multi-function learning toy is expandable to teach languages, maths, phonics, science, geography and many other subjects as well as reading e-books and playing games that feature plenty of famous TV and film characters.

One particularly natty thing that will be of great interest to parents is that your child’s progress can be tracked using the LeapFrog Learning Path. They will email you regular updates to give you insight into your child’s accomplishments on the LeapPad Explorer. They will even provide suggestions about where you child may need a little extra support!

Like we've seen with the Vtech InnoTab, these tablet style digital toys are almost as sophisticated as their adult counterpart - and LeapPad Explorer is no different. First impressions are of a brilliant toy that delivers a great educational and fun experience to all children aged 4 to 9 years old. If you can't decide whether this is the right product for you, we've written an InnoTab vs LeapPad Explorer feature that compares the pluses and minuses of both.
