Based in Alsager near Stoke on Trent, Busy Kids Toys (with a shop known as Two Thumbs Up) is a family run business selling ranges of toys and dressing-up clothes from companies such as Manhattan Toy, Oskar and Ellen, Halilit, Travis Designs and many more. All of these are chosen to enhance children’s learning and development from birth to 8(ish) in a fun way, and help children to explore their world at whatever level of development they are at. This gives them opportunities to develop their imagination and cognitive skills such as pre-reading and pre-writing through "open ended" play.
The toys sold by Busy Kids Toys rely on the child to work them, not batteries. They are available separately or as part of themed gift boxes from the website or there is an even larger range in the friendly shop. Busy Kids Toys is also committed to sourcing toys that are either made in the UK or are fairly or ethically traded. There are also dressing-up clothes from Su Su Mama that are mostly made in Sri Lanka, and the majority of the wooden toys are from Plan, John Crane or Bigjigs - these are made from rubberwood which is a completely sustainable, eco-friendly and good quality timber.
As well as gifts for younger children there is also a range of things for older ones such as science kits from the Science Museum and Great Gizmos or more crafty kits like a weaving loom. Reading is so important for babies and children and Busy Kids Toys love to encourage this by carefully choosing books. There is a wide selection in the shop from many publishers including Usborne, DK and Walker Books, including picture books, story books and novels as well as reference books covering a large number of topics. The staff in the shop are extremely friendly and will happily give advice if needed or let customers browse quietly if they so choose.
