Gamleys was an established, UK-based toy retailer with a total of nineteen toy shops located across the country. May 2008 saw the company's Littlehampton, Hove and Hastings stores close, followed closely by their Bexhill shop in July. The local press was understandably vocal about the closures, referencing the credit crunch and changes in the toy industry as being large factors in the demise of the business. Gamley's Brighton and Maidstone shops were taken over by The Entertainer.
