Adapted from Gideon Defoe’s bestselling book of the same name, The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists is the latest stop-motion project that Bristol-based Aardman Animations has been getting its teeth into. Although toys to complement the film are still only in the planning stages, there are sure to be plenty of action figures and playsets to support the release of his much-anticipated movie that will hit cinemas sometime in early 2012.
Aardman Animations is best known for their Wallace and Gromit TV shows and films - and The Pirates! uses the same technology for impressive and exciting results. Included in the film are many zany characters, one of which resembles a young Charles Darwin. The Pirates! toy makers will have fun creating a version of Mister BoBo whose character is an intelligent talking chimpanzee - whilst other products will be based around the nameless pirate characters that are just known as the pirate with the scarf, or the pirate in green.
With a star-studded cast that includes Hugh Grant, David Tennant, Imelda Staunton and Brian Blessed, we're waiting for the release of The Pirates! with bated breath! Budding little pirates should look out for a whole series of other The Pirates! toys including jigsaws, puzzles, collectable figures and games.
