Waddingtons Games

Created in the UK in 1922, Waddingtons started printing their now famous No.1 playing cards, and over the following half century developed a whole series of original board games. These included, Buccaneer, Cluedo, Lexicon and Totopoloy amongst many others. Following a buyout by American giant Hasbro in 1994, the Waddingtons name was used by them as a popular brand of games and jigsaw puzzles.

In fact, their collection of limited edition Christmas puzzles are now some of the most sought after by collectors all over the world. It’s not only the jigsaws that are in big demand by the collectors – vintage copies of the older Waddingtons board games fetch large sums of money in specialist auctions. Modern versions of some of these Waddingtons games are still made by Gibsons Games, another well respected English games supplier.

The Waddingtons name is licensed by Hasbro to Top Trumps maker Winning Moves, who offer a large series of different Waddingtons No.1 card games, many of which incorporate kid’s favourite TV characters, football clubs or even film characters such as the Marvel Heroes. The name Waddingtons is synonymous with quality and value for money, and especially with bridge players around the globe who always insist on the Waddingtons No.1 playing cards for their matches.
